1910, st louis
St. Louis Times newsies at Skeeter’s Branch on Jefferson near Franklin in St. Louis at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 1910. Photo by Lewis Wickes Hine, an American sociologist and photographer. Hine’s photos were instrumental in changing U.S. child labor laws. A 2007 Post-Dispatch story helped identify Raymond Klose, the second boy from the left. The photo was taken on his 13th birthday. The identities of the other boys remain a mystery.
